Windy conditions with a 75% chance of rain. Visibility may be reduced. Wet terrain and reduced flight stability should be expected.

Situation:

3rd Marines have established defensive positions in and around the town of Tanouka in order to prevent enemy forces from seizing the town and disrupting regional operations. Defensive lines have been established to the south (DL Cheeks), west (DL Yams), and north (DL Cakes) of Tanouka.

17th Ranger Battalion has been tasked with establishing a forward defensive blocking position east of Tanouka at the village of Vagalala. This defensive line, designated DL Buns, serves as the primary eastern shield preventing enemy forces from reaching Tanouka and threatening Marine defensive positions.

Most Likely Course of Action:

Enemy forces push heavy from the east of DL Buns with some additional forces from the northern road but are successfully held back at Vagalala. Tanouka is given plenty supplies.

Most Deadly Course of Action:

DL Buns is broken. Tanouka is overwhelmed and the 3rd Marines are flanked from the east and defeated.

Mission:

Execution:

The battalion is to hold the eastern front at DL Buns in Vagalala. Zones should be fortified and CSWs prepared for a long defense. Mortar pit should be established in a safe zone within DL Buns. Friendlies are not to cross the blue box edge under any circumstances. HOLD but do not push.

Objectives:
  1. DL Buns
    • Defend roads into the town and prevent all enemy forces from approaching Tanouka.
  2. OBJ Devon
    • Fly supplies into Tanouka while ground forces hold at DL Buns.
CONOP:
  • Phase 0:

    • Final loadout checks.

  • Phase 1: Briefing
    • Reminder of zones and resupply.
  • Phase 3: Preparation
    • Fortify zones and prepare CSWs and mortars at DL Buns.
  • Phase 4:
    • Defend the eastern route to Tanouka in Vagalala while supplies are flown into OBJ Devon.
  • Phase 5:
    • Survive.
  • Phase 6: RP/AAR
    • All units prepare for debrief.

Timeline (in CST):

Long Range Frequencies:
  • Refer to the Commo Card.
Non-verbal Communication (Smoke):
  • Green: This is used to mark friendly positions on the field.
  • Blue: Marking suitable locations for Landing Zones.
  • Red: This is used for marking enemy positions for all units to reference.
  • Yellow: This is used to inform friendly forces that Immediate medical support is needed.
  • Orange: This tells anyone in the air that a friendly unit is in desperate need of resupply.
  • Purple: This color represents a friendly position with enemy units danger close.
    • Anyone outside of 100 meters away from the smoke should be assumed hostile.
