Situation:
Global intelligence assessments indicate that Beijing has locked in a late-October timeline for the invasion of Taiwan. This strategic trajectory was first flagged by the Taiwanese government, which formally warned Allied commands of the distinct possibility that Tanoa would be subverted and utilized as a staging ground. Confirming these warnings, the Tanoa government and the People's Liberation Army (PLA) and Navy have formalized a strategic alliance, rapidly converting Tanoa's deep-water ports and remote airfields into a forward springboard designed to break out into the Pacific and flank allied defenses.
To reinforce this staging area, roughly one-third of the Chinese South Sea Fleet is currently steaming toward the island and will arrive in 6 hours to anchor the regional buildup. Ahead of its arrival, the PLA—having infiltrated the island covertly via commercial transports 2 weeks earlier—has heavily integrated into the nation, establishing two heavily fortified command and logistics outposts near the slopes of Mount Tanoa to coordinate incoming naval elements and manage regional air defense and communication networks.
Tasked with preempting this staging effort, the 17th Ranger Battalion is deploying out of the Clark Air Base in the Philippines under strict clandestine directives. As part of this force package, a dedicated HIMARS detachment utilizing special GMLRS+ rockets, is deploying to one of the less contested islands of Balavu and Katkoula to provide critical long-range strike support. The battalion's primary objectives are to disrupt and dismantle the Mount Tanoa outposts, eliminate high-value logistical infrastructure, and permanently deny the Chinese Navy and Army the use of Tanoa's strategic logistical hubs.

Civilian Considerations:
Expect civilians in all population centers. Civilian casualties should not affect how you proceed with the mission.
Mission:
The 17th Ranger Battalion is to conduct a clandestine infiltration into the Tanoa archipelago to investigate, disrupt, and dismantle PLA advanced outposts near Mount Tanoa, while establishing long-range HIMARS fire support positions on Balavu or Katkoula. The direct action element will investigate the sites and look for possible targets for HIMARS strikes.
Execution:
Phase 1: Infiltration & Position Establishment
-
Rangers HALO into the AO via MC-130J Commando, into a DZ to be chosen by the squad leader.
-
HIMARS detachment is inserted via C-130 in the less contested outer islands of Balavu or Katkoula to set up long-range rocket artillery support. The order of deployment of assets, as well as the DZ will be chosen by the detachment squad leader.
Phase 2: Reconnaissance & Investigation
-
Ground elements move through the jungle terrain toward the slopes of Mount Tanoa.
-
Conduct close-target reconnaissance on the two PLA outposts to map enemy positions around the island, as well as identify the purpose of the installations.
Phase 3: Direct Action & Sabotage
-
Execute coordinated raids into the objectives and conduct SSE.
-
If actionable intel is found, strikes will immediately be performed by HIMARS into critical infrastructure targets around the archipelago.
Phase 4: Exfiltration
-
Once enough damage is achieved, extract from the AO however way possible. The HIMARS platform must not be left behind.

Objectives:
-
Find a method to impede the PLA Navy from using the archipelago as a staging point, now or in the future.
-
Infiltrate the Comms Alpha and Bravo areas around Mount Tanoa(OBJ Monsoon and OBJ Downpour). We should be able to find more intel on PLA/TNM activities at either site.
-
Destroy/damage as many locations as possible in the island to cripple any future PLA/TNM operations.
-
HIMARS platform must be extracted out of the AO at the end of the operation.
