Week 1/1.5 Summary
Week 1 — OBJ MUSA
Week 1 opened the Battalion's investigation into the weapons network operating throughout Lythium. Acting on intelligence identifying Mohammad “Musa” Ahmadi as a local weapons facilitator, the 17th Ranger Battalion conducted a direct-action raid on his compound near Kunara in AO RANGER. The objective was to capture Musa and exploit the compound for information concerning the movement and distribution of weapons to hostile elements. Musa escaped the initial operation, but SSE of the compound produced valuable material, including communications, payment records, weapons information, and maps documenting established smuggling routes. Most importantly, the recovered intelligence repeatedly pointed toward an individual identified as “RAHMAT.”
Week 1.5 — Follow-On Operation
Following Musa's escape, a Ranger Reconnaissance Company (RRC) element conducted a follow-on reconnaissance operation to continue developing the intelligence picture surrounding Musa and the emerging weapons network. The operation was successful and, combined with continued exploitation of the material recovered at Kunara, strengthened the connection between Musa and Rahmat Khan Zadran, an individual believed to operate farther upstream in the weapons supply chain. By the conclusion of Week 1.5, the investigation had shifted beyond Musa himself: the Battalion was beginning to uncover a broader logistics network responsible for moving weapons and ammunition throughout Lythium, setting the conditions for Week 2.
