Situation:
Following interdiction operations, CSAT/CSAT-backed forces have begun a coordinated mechanized breach from the east along Route Jason with supporting helicopter assault packages from the south. EW activity (GPS/radar jamming, datalink interference) is elevated and complicates ISR and fire control.
Enemy Forces
OPFOR:
- Mechanized brigades (MBTs, IFVs), logistic trains, rotary-wing assault and gunship elements, screened infantry.
- Tactics: combined-arms breach — mechanized thrust on Route Jason synchronized with air assault to seize rear-area objectives.
- Expect blocking/escort elements, rapid engineer bridging, and small-craft insertions.
Friendly Forces
BLUFOR:
- 17th Ranger Battalion — primary blocking force on Route Jason. Supported by 74th SFG (QRF / recon)
- Echo Co (support/sustain/perimeter),
- SIGINT/ELINT
- UAV ISR
- Engineers/EOD
- Coastal SOF
- JTF fires assets on call.
Civilian Considerations:
Mission:
17th Ranger Battalion will interdict and block the CSAT mechanized breach along Route Jason, hold defensive positions OBJ Mercury (PRIMARY) → OBJ Venus (SECONDARY) → OBJ Mars (FINAL) in sequence, and prevent enemy penetration onto friendly-held depth lines until ordered to exfil or ENDEx.
Execution:
Deny the mechanized breach along Route Jason. Hold assigned defensive positions in depth (Mercury → Venus → Mars). Inflict maximum attrition while preserving combat power for sustained defense. Hold until ordered to withdraw.
Mission AO and relevant imagery:
Tasks (by unit)
- Alpha Company (Ranger rifle companies):
- Occupy assigned sectors at OBJ Mercury.
- Prepare anti-armor ambushes, ATGM sectors, IED defeat measures, and counter-sniper routines.
- Execute disciplined fires and withdraw to Venus if ordered.
- 74th SFG:
- Recon ahead of Route Jason
- Provide early-warning SIGINT, QRF posture, and precision direct-action on HVTs when identified.
- Echo Company:
- Sustainment/resupply shuttles
- CASEVAC coordination
- Perimeter reinforcement at fallback positions
- Vehicle/weapon repair support
- Engineers / EOD:
- Emplace anti-vehicle obstacles
- Prepare demolition plan for bridges/culverts
- Prioritize IED route clearance on withdrawal lanes
SIGINT/ELINT / UAV ISR:
- Continuous overwatch;
- Prioritize jammer localization
- Emitter geolocation
- Immediate convoy/aviation tracks to defense nets
Immediate actions on contact
- Battle drill: return accurate SALT / 5W contact report.
- Establish hasty primary sector fires; trigger pre-registered artillery/CAS if authorized.
- Execute anti-armor ambush sequence; call QRF if enemy forms combined-arms.
- If untenable: coordinated withdrawal to next OBJ under smoke + covering fires; maintain unit integrity.
RULES OF ENGAGEMENT (ROE)
- Maximum force authorized to prevent breach and ensure force protection within the AO.
- Positive Identification (PID) of hostile intent/act required when practicable.
- Once PID established, use decisive force.
- Priority: protect friendly forces and deny Route Jason.
- Engagement of regular CSAT forces: immediate self-defense permitted; report upchain and expect political notification.
- Detainees: detain when feasible; follow JTF detainee handling SOP.
SERVICE & SUPPORT
Spawn / Rally / Staging Points
- Initial Spawn Point: Michelob Airbase — initial player/element spawn and staging for movement to OBJ Mercury.
- JIP (OBJ Mercury & OBJ Venus): FOB Whiteclaw — primary JIP for rapid reinforcement/reentry to Mercury & Venus.
- JIP (OBJ Mars): The Alamo — designated JIP for forces moving to/reinforcing OBJ Mars (final position).
- Sustainment & Fires
- Sustainment: Echo Co coordinates resupply from FOB Whiteclaw; ammo & fuel priority to units holding Mercury. Pre-position combat loads at Venus.
- Fires: JTF indirect fires and CAS available on request; use pre-arranged fire plans to avoid fratricide. Counter-battery priority on identified enemy artillery.
- CASEVAC: Forward medical teams co-located at OBJ Venus; secondary casualty aggregation at PZ LongStroke. Aerial CASEVAC limited by EW — coordinate windows.
- Engineering: Pre-plan demolition of Route Jason bridges as contingency; obstacle emplacements executed at H- as ordered.
INTELLIGENCE & EW CONSIDERATIONS
SIGINT priority:
- Localize jammer emitters and enemy command datalinks.
- Provide ELINT to restore ISR windows.
- Expect degraded GPS/SAT; use LOS comms, prearranged burst windows, and mapped control points for navigation.
- Maintain strict EMCON during preparation; limit transmissions that can be geolocated by enemy ELINT.
COMMAND & SIGNAL
Command: 17th Ranger Battalion CO (on-scene) — tactical control retained. Immediate operational reporting to JTF Commander.
- Primary Comms: Secure LOS nets for local maneuver; HF backup for beyond-line-of-sight. Prearranged fire/SEAD net for CAS coordination.
- Authentication: Use daily crypto/PD codes and challenge/response. Report SITREPs every 30 minutes while engaged; immediate reports for contact, enemy armor sighted, air assault, or loss of comms.
- Medical / CASEVAC callsigns & freqs: [Insert call signs / freqs]
- Mortars / Indirect fires: PLT FDC net [insert] for fire missions.
TIMING & PHASING
- Prepare posture — Immediately: Occupy & fortify OBJ Mercury. Initial forces spawn at Michelob Airbase → move to assigned sectors.
- Alert posture — H-2 hours: All units at Battle Stations; SIGINT & ISR persistent. FOB Whiteclaw open as JIP for Mercury & Venus reinforcement. The Alamo open as JIP for Mars.
- Breach expected — H: Engage and hold.
- Fallback sequence: If forced, withdraw Mercury → Venus → Mars in that order and hold Mars until ordered to EXFIL/ENDEx.
SUCCESS (WIN) CONDITIONS
- Primary: Route Jason denied to mechanized breach for duration of engagement until ordered to withdraw.
- Secondary: Enemy mechanized formation attrited to the point they cannot consolidate offensive into depth; major bridges/crossings remain under friendly control or are denied.
- Tactical: OBJ Mercury and fallback positions (Venus, Mars) held in sequence.
FAIL CONDITIONS
- Mission failure triggers escalation if any of:
- Enemy breakthrough past OBJ Mars into friendly rear or key terrain without organized withdrawal orders.
- Loss of command & control across the battalion (can’t coordinate withdrawal or fires).
- Capture/irreversible loss of primary sustainment nodes (FOB Whiteclaw or PZ LongStroke) preventing resupply/CASEVAC.
- Enemy consolidation on Route Jason with freedom of maneuver into depth.
COMMANDER’S INTENT
Hold Route Jason — fight in depth from Mercury → Venus → Mars — deny the mechanized breach and prevent enemy penetration until ordered to withdraw.
Objectives:
Concept of Operations
- Defense in depth: Establish strong, mutually supporting positions:
- OBJ Mercury — Primary defensive position: strongest fortification, main engagement zone. Hold as long as tactically feasible.
OBJ Mercury
-
- OBJ Venus — Secondary: prepared fallback with anti-armor obstacles and concealed overwatch.
OBJ Venus
-
- OBJ Mars — Final organized line; deny passage to critical terrain and command nodes.
OBJ Mars
- Integrated fires & ISR: SIGINT/ELINT + UAV ISR → detect formation assembly and EW emitters. Coordinate JTF indirect fires, CAS, and engineer counter-mobility to canalize enemy into kill zones.
- QRF / Seizure: 74th SFG stands ready as QRF for counterattack or HVT seizure. Coastal SOF interdiction on flanks.
