Situation:

CSAT has shifted maritime resupply into the AO via helicopters and small craft. Supplies are moved inland to OBJ POKER (Route Jason / Route Chucky crossroads). Vympel 322 has established trench belts and interlocking defenses west of OBJ POKER. Residual electronic warfare persists; GPS and some satellite communications may be degraded. Civilians remain along approach corridors and near coastal offload points. CSAT and insurgent propaganda have further eroded local trust in NATO.

Enemy Forces

OPFOR:
  • Vympel 322 irregulars: light infantry, technicals, MG/ZU emplacements, trench defenders.
  • CSAT maritime & rotary-wing assets: providing offload and limited air cover.
  • Short-range air defenses and residual EW nodes ashore.
  • High IED threat along approaches and in trench belts.

Friendly Forces

BLUFOR:
  • Alpha Company: Primary assault, inner-perimeter breach and clearance at OBJ POKER.
  • 17th Ranger Battalion HQ: Operational command, coordination, detainee processing.
  • 74th SFG: Screen, QRF, HVT interdiction, precision support.
  • Echo Company: Vehicle/logistics lift, Stryker SHORAD, mechanized support for OBJ POKER and western approaches.
  • Engineers/EOD, SIGINT/ELINT, UAV ISR, Coastal SOF: Mission enablers.

Civilian Considerations:

Mission:

Deny CSAT maritime resupply, breach and clear western trench belts, and seize/destroy Vympel 322 storage at OBJ POKER. Secondary: detain and extract all military-aged males for processing and intelligence exploitation. Alpha Company is primary assault; 74th SFG provides QRF/screen; Echo Company supports mechanized assault and air defense.

Execution:

Three-phase operation, sequenced to limit enemy maneuver and maximize operational effect

Mission AO and relevant imagery:

RULES OF ENGAGEMENT (ROE)
  • Maximum force authorized to achieve objectives and ensure force protection.
  • Positive identification of hostile intent/act required prior to engagement.
  • Commanders may employ all available organic and allocated fires, direct-action capabilities, demolition, mechanized assault, and area denial to accomplish mission.
  • Civilian life preservation is desired but does not supersede mission or force protection.
  • Detainees: detain when possible; neutralize if presenting immediate lethal threat.
SERVICE & SUPPORT
  • CASEVAC: Forward medical teams collocated with Alpha Company; Echo Company provides mechanized CASEVAC.
  • Resupply: Pre-staged at PZ LongStroke and FOB Tempest; Echo Company coordinates vehicle/lift support.
  • EOD/Engineers: Route and structure clearance, breach support.
  • Maritime interdiction: Coastal SOF patrols available; naval support limited.
INTELLIGENCE & SIGINT
  • Characterize EW/jammer signals to restore ISR and navigation.
  • HUMINT from evacuees/detainees for compound layouts and HVT locations.
  • ISR overwatch of maritime approaches, trench belts, and OBJ POKER; plan for intermittent jamming.
COMMAND & SIGNAL
  • Command: JTF Commander on-scene; operational control delegated to on-site JTF OIC.
  • Comms: Secure LOS nets; HF backup if SAT degraded; prearranged burst windows.
  • Reporting: Immediate HVT/materiel seizure to JTF; detainee movement under strict handling protocol.
TIMING & COORDINATION
  • Phase 1 insertion: H-8
  • Phase 2 assault: H-2 to H+6
  • Phase 3: Follows breach confirmation and perimeter security
SUCCESS CRITERIA
  • Air corridor denied ≥72 hours.
  • Western trench belts breached; approach lanes secured.
  • OBJ POKER rendered inoperable; materiel destroyed/seized.
  • Military-aged males detained and processed; materiel documented for intelligence exploitation.
COMMANDER’S INTENT

Deny Vympel 322 a sustainable maritime supply chain, destroy inland node at OBJ POKER, and eliminate the human and materiel infrastructure enabling insurgency. Achieve objectives decisively using maximum force where necessary. Mitigate civilian harm only where feasible without compromising mission success. Exploit intelligence to shape follow-on operations.

Objectives:

Phase 1 — Anti-Air Interdiction (Ylä Pihlaja Ring)
  • Deny air corridor from sea to inland nodes.
  • Alpha Company secures emplacement sectors; 74th SFG conducts recon; Echo Company provides Stryker SHORAD coverage.
  • Temporary emplacements relocate after interdiction windows to minimize counter-targeting.

Phase 2 — Western Trench Breach & Clearance

  • Alpha Company executes main-breach with engineer/EOD support.
  • 74th SFG conducts flank interdiction and HVT strikes.
  • Echo Company mechanized elements secure lanes and support movement.
  • UAV ISR and SIGINT provide overwatch and target confirmation.

Phase 3 — Assault & Denial of OBJ POKER

  • Alpha Company leads inner-perimeter assault.
  • 74th SFG performs precision HVT strikes and secures exfil lanes.
  • Echo Company secures approaches, transports detainees, and supports demolition.
  • Engineers/EOD render or destroy materiel; document for intelligence exploitation.
  • Secondary Objective: Detain and extract all military-aged males within storage compounds.
