Situation

Intelligence reports indicate that Fallujah is currently held by enemy insurgents and the Iraqi MIlitary. They are well-entrenched and heavily fortified in key positions throughout the city. There are likely a mix of IEDs, RPG teams, sniper nests, APCs, IFVs, older Soviet era tanks and heavy machine gun emplacements around major intersections and government buildings. Expect heavy resistance in the city center and the surrounding industrial zones. The enemy forces are entrenched in defensive positions, but they lack the coordination and logistics to effectively conduct a prolonged defense.

Opfor:

  • Enemy forces are entrenched in Fallujah with a mix of insurgent groups, including 3CB Middle Eastern insurgents and Iraqi Military units. They hold key positions in the urban environment, utilizing IEDs, sniper nests, RPG teams, and heavy machine guns to resist any Allied advances. Expect high-intensity urban combat, especially in the city center and surrounding industrial zones.

Blufor:

  • Task Force Tekashi (RCT 6, RCT 9, 1st Recon BN, Kurdish Freedom Alliance) and Task Force Gundam (17th Ranger Battalion, 3ID, ZEON) are available for the operation.

Greenfor:

  • n/a

Engagement Criteria:

  • Minimize collateral damage
  • Be mindful of possible civilians
  • Engage any armed military age males
  • Be mindful of other US forces operating in the area

Mission:

Execution:

17th Ranger Battalion will push south into Fallujah, conduct urban clearing operations to route insurgent forces, and secure key infrastructure. This effort will support the larger L-shaped maneuver with 3ID pushing westward into the AO. Ensure coordination with Task Force 3ID to facilitate their advance into the city.

Objectives:

Alpha Company
  • Assault through the city, discover and clear enemy POI's
  • Establish secure perimeter at the edge of the AO (exact limit will be defined at op time)
Echo Company
  • Provide support to infantry elements as they move through the city
  • Provide intelligence support by locating hostile strongholds and POI's from the air
  • Provide air logistics to manage reinsertions and resupply

CONOP:

  • Phase 0: PreOp 1730 CST

    • COs/XOs finalize remaining details if any
    • NCO meeting to disseminate plan
    • Slotting
  • Phase I: Brief 1900 CST

    • BCO will give final overview and expectations
    • COs will brief vehicle commanders and squad leaders of final tweaks and expectations/needs
  • Phase II: Prep 1905 CST

    • Loadouts and roles finalized
    • Tactical Approach disseminated
    • Vehicle assignment for step off
    • Air recon and marking of hostile POI's to be targeted during combat actions
  • Phase III: Urban clearing and perimeter establishment 1910

    • 17th RBN will move south through the city eliminating enemy forces and clearing hostile points of interest
    • 17th RBN will advance towards an LOA and clear the area along the path to it in order to establish a secure area which will be held once the AO is cleared
  • Phase IV: RP/AAR

    • All units prepare for debrief.

FAIL CONDITION

Alpha company is completely eliminated during the combat action

Nonverbal Coordination:

  • Green: This is used to mark friendly positions on the field.
  • Blue: Marking suitable locations for Landing Zones.
  • Red: This is used for marking enemy positions for all units to reference.
  • Yellow: This is used to inform friendly forces that Immediate medical support is needed.
  • Purple: This color represents a friendly position with enemy units danger close, Anyone outside of 100 meters away from the smoke should be assumed hostile.
  • Orange: This tells anyone in the air that a friendly unit is in desperate need of resupply.
