Cloudy with heavy snowfall. Low chance of blizzard.
Situation:
It has been one month since our operations in Stubbhult. The people responsible for the development of the latest chemical weapons we witnessed in Stubbhult have yet to be captured. However, our latest intelligence reports have tracked one of their operatives to the northern fjords of Norway. What remains undisclosed to the public is a presence of a rising military presence in the region, not by NATO or the Russians.
The British government has disclosed that a joint commonwealth army group have gone rogue, for reasons we cannot ascertain. They have declared themselves as Res Publica, and are capable of extensive ground and air operations. We suspect that the conflict in Norway and the defection of these troops are somehow linked, but top brass do not know the extent of this rebellion. What we do know is that the former Norwegian forces that we have faced in the past may likely have chosen to join up with Res Publica, bolstering their ranks and making them an even larger threat. It is in our interest to remove this rising rebellion.
As part of Directive Firewall issued by NATO, a new task force has been created to quell the northern enemy in the fjords and to uncover the whereabouts of further chemical weapon production. The 17th Ranger Battalion will be spearheading this endeavor, supported by the 9th Air Commando Group and the 12th Airborne Cavalry Battalion. Three U.S. Navy ships have been dispatched to aid our deployment, including the carrier USS Lincoln, the destroyer USS Meade, and the USS Cold Harbor serving as the LHD.
We have already successfully prepared a Forward Operating Base in the northwest region of our primary AO, designated FOB Danelaw. The Cold Harbor has been unloading troops from the 12th Air Cav. into the small port of Nordkil, enabling them to establish a small front line just west of Danelaw into Innhavet's Ski Resort. Small skirmishes have already broken out with a few of the enemy patrols, with increasing contact around Innhavet itself. Bravo Company of the 12th Air Cav is holding out at Innhavet and repelling enemy forces, with reports of infantry and APCs being supported by mobile SAM platforms.
Enemy Forces:
OPFOR:
- Res Publica
- Motorized Infantry
- Spotted LAV variants in deployment
- Avengers activated in support
- Unknown rotary and fixed wing assets
- Several airbases are present throughout the region
- Motorized Infantry
Friendly Forces:
BLUFOR:
- 17th Ranger Battalion
- 9th Air Commando Group
- 12th Airborne Cavalry Battalion
Civilian Considerations:
We have made efforts to evacuate civilians towards Nordkil and FOB Danelaw, at least from the ski resort. From what we gathered from the locals, many of Res Publica's forces have garrisoned themselves within most towns and occupied civilian infrastructure. As a result, damage to civilian buildings and infrastructure is inevitable. Make attempts to rescue civilians back to FOB Danelaw whenever possible.
Mission:
For this first operation, our primary objectives are to capture Oteren Port and Larseng Airbase to the south. Capturing these two locations will enable our fleet to more effectively control the bay for further operations deeper into the mainland. In addition, we have identified several communication towers that need to be destroyed to disrupt Res Publica's ability to respond to our incursion. A general sweep of the Innhavet Ski Resort and the main highway to Oteren will both need to be completed in order to achieve our goals.
Oteren Port is watched over by two facilities to its north, the Elvegard Motorpool and the Elvegard Tunnel. Both areas have seen heavy traffic lately after our recent skirmishes by Innhavet. It is highly recommended that we seize both locations to control the main road, enabling us to secure our logistics line through the western region.
Larseng Airbase's land approach is through the Vestfjorden Bridge, which is being guarded by Bremholmen Outpost. Controlling both will be the key to controlling Larseng Airbase.
Execution:
Newly issued land rovers have been supplied to FOB Danelaw to help navigate the heavily mountainous terrain. In addition, our strykers have been upgraded with Trophy MV APS to improve overall survivability against the heavy presence of enemy infantry. Due to rough weather conditions and presence of SAMs, fixed wing is ill advised until we control Larseng Airbase. Rotary assets are on standby to provide light air support and logistics.
Mission Maker Note
You may encounter vehicle resupply objects scattered at various different outposts. Please feel free to make use of them. These include your standard: vehicle repair crates, vehicle rearm crates, and vehicle refuel canisters.
