Situation:

Following our successful attack on Batonan positions, we have fully established a beachhead at MOB HARDEE, and have been able to augment the defensive operations of FNA forces this side of the border. Command wants us to strike while the iron is hot, and maximize our presence on the island, destabilizing the enemy and regaining the initiative for further operations.

Intel recovered during the previous operations has indicated that the enemy has made a concerted push to retain MOB MERMAID, an island-based military airstrip that offers significant strategic value to whomever retains it. Eliminating or controlling this position is of immediate importance to future operations.

Civilian Considerations:

Adhere to Battalion SOP, preserve civilian infrastructure.

No civilian traffic reported along corridor of advance, however potential for light civilian presence in the vicinity of Sossana.

Mission:

The 17th Ranger Battalion is being tasked with conducting a major amphibious flanking maneuver, with the intent of seizing two objectives:

Echo company will be tasked with conducting airstrikes on hardened targets within MOB MERMAID, to be followed up by a limited ground insertion conducted by Alpha Company to conduct cleanup and BDA of remaining ground forces.

Concurrently, combined elements from both Alpha and Echo companies will exploit the local waterways and the capabilities of our IFVs to conduct a semi-amphibious flanking maneuver past enemy positions IOT to seize a position in the Sossana region with the intent of creating a forward operations base and securing a second beachhead for follow-on forces.

FNA forces will assist in creating a diversionary attack on Batonan positions still defending the two major border crossings, the 17th will utilize this feint to execute their maneuver in full, and prioritize achieving their objective.

Execution:

  • Echo Company conducts airstrikes on enemy positions at MOB MERMAID
  • Fapovan forces initiate diversionary attack on BNA defensive positions.
  • Battalion begin maneuvers
  • RRC will reach release point, then divert from main force to conduct BDA and cleanup IOT to secure MOB MERMAID
  • Engage any targets of opportunity IOT achieve position at FOB ROSS
