Mission:
After some of the fiercest fighting done so far in the entire war by the 17th Rangers, we have successfully secured much of the northeastern mainland and driven the MLF out from their defensive positions. However, the 3rd BCT has been repelled to the west as the MLF conducts a massive counterattack. Their surprise of force and ferocity caught US troops off guard and the 3rd BCT were barely holding onto the frontline at the town of Laurel. As a result, many of the 3rd BCT, including elements of the 2nd Battalion, are being rerouted to help reinforce the west. The 17th is now tasked to singlehandedly eliminate the remaining MLF defenders to the northeast.
The Liberation Front is digging in hard on the northeastern island, designated Corel Island. They have failed in their attempts to conduct a scorched earth strategy in destroying the oil refineries at Lake Port, but have denied us entry into the island by destroying the bridge connecting the mainland to Corel Island. As a result, our forces are preparing to conduct a siege of the island and have been authorized to conduct bombardment of known military installations, including the Corel Airbase. While not as large as Rassa Airport, it boasts a deadly AA network with their SAM defenses, not to mention the garrison that is a compilation of all the survivors we have driven back to the island.
Corel Airbase is broken up into three sub objectives: the main strip as OBJ Aragon, Corel Port to the north as OBJ Seymour, and the southern gate entrance as OBJ Cleves. We must hold all three to prevent the MLF from conducting a successful counterattack to drive us off the island. Once the airbase is secured, the corridor to deploy additional assets can be opened.
As for the rest of Corel Island, there is the ancient fortress in the middle designated as OBJ Boleyn which boasts a substantial cave network that must be secured. On top of that, there is the main city of Corel Springs itself, one of the larger proto-cities in all of Mariterra. The main city hall of Corel Springs has been designated as OBJ Parr which must be taken. We have reason to believe that the MLF Commander in the AO, Colonel Arin Wakuu, is present broadcasting propaganda alongside several political pro-MLF Mariterran officials and potentially a Chinese representative. The Colonel and these officials must be captured if possible. Initial intelligence reports that the MLF are attempting to conduct evacuation of refugees and civilians via air transport. We have strict orders not to engage these evacuation craft. These reports are in line with recent PLA naval deployments in the South China Sea, which Carrier Strike Group Six is attempting to screen. Fortunately, CSG 6 is able to dispatch the USS Kaiyo Maru with a submarine escort to assist the 17th in their assault of Corel Island and are staged at the East Point Port.
We have detected a jammer site in the industrial district at Corel Springs, marked as OBJ Howard. The Destruction of the jammer is authorized, but it is in close proximity to several oil refineries. Neutralization of the target is strongly advised to be done with demolition charges only to prevent collateral damage to the oil refineries. It is unknown at this time if the MLF have additional jammers active in the AO.
Execution:
The operation will be broken up into two phases. Phase 1 will involve capturing the western half of the island establishing an air corridor for assets to be deployed to assist in assaulting the remainder of the island. Phase 2 will be a ground war across the island and securing the main city.
The Kaiyo Maru will be providing initial cruise missile strikes to neutralize the AA defenses around the Corel Airbase. Alpha and Bravo batteries of the 3rd Battalion, equipped with M270 and M939 MLRS platforms, will conduct a rocket barrage to hammer the MLF defenses across the Airbase and soften the approach.
The 17th Rangers will have options to deploy assets from Rassa Airport. Port Osprey is also open with naval assets to conduct an amphibious assault.
*The BCO will be granted the authority to commence the fire mission via an interaction with a static radio. When it occurs, Alpha and Bravo battieries will begin their bombardment which will last for approximately 90 seconds in conjunction with the Kaiyo Maru's cruise missiles. The bombardment will successfully neutralize all of the AA defenses across the airstrip.*
