- Preservation of U.S. assets and personnel is primary goal. Destruction of infrastructure authorized.
Mission:
The reconquest of Mariterra is almost complete. With the arrival of Task Force 12 helping to drive back the PLA invaders off of the countryside, we have managed to corner the remaining OPFOR into the southwestern region of Mariterra. The 17th Rangers have been much needed rest after the weeks of constant heavy fighting. Now, for the final breakthrough, the Rangers are being reactivated.
One of the primary strongholds that the PLA hold is the fortress island of Gasparilla. It contains double layers of outer walls surrounding the perimeter, a castle overlooking the main gate which connects the island to the mainland with only one bridge, and an airbase in the middle of the island. This island is what the Mariterran Union promised the United States would have access to should we be successful in eliminating the MLF threat. With that, this airbase is of utmost priority to our operations in the Pacific Theater against China. The Chinese cannot afford to lose Airbase Gasparilla, as it would mean certain defeat for them on Mariterra. If we take the island, we may be able to bring the Chinese to the negotiating table.
Execution:
Staging grounds for the assault on Airbase Gasparilla must be secured first and foremost before any attack can commence. Two sites have been identified for potential launching points:
Airbase Sanibel: a small civilian airport that is located next to Sanibel Shores, the gateway into the only bridge to the island.
Sanibel Island: a naval base south of Sanibel that is being used as a supply station for PLA forces.
Both of these sites are defended heavily by infantry and various marine IFV units, including ZBD-86 and ZBD-04 IFVs (BMP-2 and BMP-3).
As for Airbase Gasparilla, its defensive contingent is extensive, with air and ground assets present alongside emplaced turrets to help defend the island.
The 17th will deploy from Airbase Haven at the start of the operation.
